The Digital Divide is a reality for all teachers within the classroom. I have a hard time understanding the reasons behind funding for some here, some here, and ZERO funding for others when we are trying to reach ALL students. I do realize some schools have more lower achieving students or their SES overall at their school is different, but I feel it is balancing out at some schools due to the number of student not attending their home school. How can I help the influx of these students at my school without technology avaliable at my school. It is almost as if they would be better off at their own home school because of the technology that would be avaliable to them. I didn't realize until the last few days how much money different schools get to purchase such wonderful tools. To hear of a school recieving millions of dollars over a stretch of a few years or even a bulk of thousands of dollars, amazes me. I am now on a mission to get funding for my school. We have a ton of committees such as the Yearbook, AR, etc and I would like to create a grant writing committe or a technology committee. I hope this idea goes over well with my principal and teachers are open to helping!

Montana, I think youhave a super idea in fruition here! A technology committee would be awesome! That committee can attend professional development and come back to do it as staff development at your school. You could even encourage one teacher from each grade level to implement more technology in their classroom as a part of their PDP or IGP for the school year.
I agree with about how the distribution of funds is way off! I couldn't believe how little some schools have- I almost feel guilty talking about the resources that I have. At the end of the day...it's for the students! I love your idea about the grant writing committee! I think I might "borrow" it- but give you full copyrighted credit!
Montana,
I agree with you! My school is an opt-out school and we have hardly any technology! The school that is the home school for the students who opt-out is filled with technology. I’m not sure if the teachers know how to use the technology effectively, but I at least know that they have the technology if they want to use it. I hope you can get support at your school for more funding/grants. I think that awareness and acknowledgment of the problem is the first step!
